Saturday 29 March 2014
MANGALORE: The Alva's Institute of Engineering and Technology Mijar, Moodbidri is organising 'Chakravyuh', a three-day inter-disciplinary, inter-collegiate competitions on its campus from April 4. The event is a platform to encourage students of all disciplines to exhibit their talents and skills. Hitherto, colleges would host fests only for the category they were in. Alva for the first time is hosting an event for all categories — degree, PG, engineering, paramedical and medical.

Alexander Mathews, dean, MBA said well known Indian director, actor, screen writer and lyricist Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar will be inaugurating the festival on April 4. More than 100 events including music and fine arts competitions have been organised. There will be technical workshops and technical paper presentations. With 100 teams expected to compete, organisers as on date have received confirmation from 51 colleges. There is an entry fee of Rs 100 per participant.

The participants are eligible to take part in any number of events, Alexander said, adding the competitions will take place on 7 different stages. Food and stay arrangements have been made for all participants.

Another highlight of Chakravyuh is the food fest. The proceeds of this event will go towards providing sanitary facilities to the government schools in and around Moodbidri. MSW students of the Institute have conducted a survey to identify the needy. The civil work for these facilities will be done by the civil engineering students of the college, he noted. The other highlight of the event is Arcadia — fun games, the motoring — which will be an exhibition of customised, vintage and high-end cars.

On April 5, popular band of India 'Euphoria' will conduct a musical show from 6pm at the Virasat grounds at Mijar. This show is free and open to all. Organisers have made arrangements for 15,000 to sit and watch the performance of Euphoria. College buses have been arranged to take back people to Mangalore, Udupi and Karkala after the music show, he said.
