The South Korean tech giant's 2014 flagship, the Galaxy S5, is out. Unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February, the handset started selling in 150 countries from April 11.
The Galaxy S5 comes with a finger scanner and a heart rate monitor.
Tech enthusiasts and analysts had cast doubt over success of the new handset.
GSM Arena has quoted a report from Zdnet.co.kr saying the Galaxy S5 did even better than its predecessor in global market on launch day. According to the report, the device ran out of stock in several markets hampering the first day sales. Had it been in stock launch day sales would have been even higher.
It has 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED screen and 16-megapixel main camera.
The product information says, "Featuring a perforated pattern on the back cover and an array of vivid colours, the Galaxy S5's modern glam design complements your individual style, while the 12.95 cm (5.1-inch) Full HD Super AMOLED screen with a slim bezel and Adaptive Display provides a superior viewing experience."
The Galaxy S5 comes with a 2,800mAh battery, 2-GB RAM and runs on the latest Android 4.4 Kit Kat. It has 16-megapixel rear camera with a larger image sensor and the world's fastest autofocus speed up to 0.3 seconds.
The dust and water resistant device has a finger scanner that enhances security of the device as the fingerprints authorise unlocking and locking of handset, access to private content and online payments.
Among its much talked about features is a heart rate sensor that measures heart rate. Additionally, it has other fitness tool that tracks fitness progress.
