In order to bring transparency and prevent harassment of drivers and other staff by higher officials in allotting routes, the Ministry of Transport is in the process of installing software on the lines of software installed for giving leaves to the transport staff.
Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Chairman of North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC), Bhimanna Sali, said that following complaints that the higher officials harass drivers and conductors by taking bribe in allotting specific route, the decision has been taken to put an end to this practice by installing a software.
Mr. Sali however said that disciplinary action would be taken against those who found to be harassing the drivers or other staff of the department.
He also said that since the biometric system did not work as expected in bus depot in registering the entry of the staff, the decision has been taken to at least install the CCTV cameras in all depots.
About the proposed decision by the District Incharge Minister, M.B. Patil to build a separate bus station for city buses, Mr. Sali welcomed the decision but said that the project could be implemented only when the District Administration grants adequate land within the city limits.
“We are always ready to have a separate city bus station considering the increasing population and need for more city buses, but unless the land is given by the district administration, this project cannot be executed”, he said.
Informing that at present, the city buses ply on around 50 routes within the city limit, he said that in coming days, some 35 more routes would be identified in the interest of people to provide city transport facility.
He said that in some of the place of the city, a plan is being worked out to ply mini-buses as bigger buses would not prove feasible.
He informed that while the government was preparing to purchase 400 new buses for NEKRTC, adequate number of buses would be acquired for Vijayapura district..
